Hadjod (Cissus Quadrangularis) Extract comes from a climbing vine with unusual four-sided stems that grows across India. Its Hindi name, Hadjod, means "bone joiner", which reflects its traditional use, and today the extract is used in bone, joint and fitness supplements.
Arizone International supplies Hadjod (Cissus Quadrangularis) Extract for nutraceutical, herbal, cosmetic and food manufacturers, private label brands, wholesalers and bulk buyers. Standardisation, extract ratio, carrier, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.
Cissus quadrangularis is a succulent vine of the grape family with thick, square, segmented stems. It grows in the warm, dry parts of India, Sri Lanka and Africa, and has a long history in Ayurveda, where it is known as Asthisamharaka.
The stems contain plant sterols, flavonoids, vitamin C and other compounds. Extracts are made from the stems and are either standardised, for example to 3-ketosteroids, or supplied as ratio extracts.
To make the extract, the dried plant material is cleaned, milled and extracted with water, hydro-alcohol or another suitable solvent. The liquid extract is filtered, concentrated and usually spray-dried into a fine, free-flowing powder. It can then be standardised to a marker compound or supplied as a ratio extract, such as 10:1, and any carrier used, such as maltodextrin, is stated on the specification.
Formulation, dosage, safety assessment, labelling and permitted claims of the finished product must comply with the regulations of the intended market. Some people notice mild stomach upset or dry mouth, and it may affect blood sugar, so people taking diabetes medicines, and pregnant or breastfeeding women, should consult a healthcare professional.
Ask which marker and test method are used, as Cissus extracts on the market are standardised in different ways.
The fresh stems can irritate the skin, but the dried extract is easy to handle.
Cissus extract is commonly used at 300 mg to 1,000 mg per serving in capsules and tablets. It is a popular addition to joint formulas with glucosamine, and to bone formulas with calcium and vitamin D3. Store the extract cool and dry, and keep drums sealed between uses.
