Part of our Herbal Extracts range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Avena Sativa Extract is made from the common oat plant and is used in two very different areas: green oat herb extract in relaxation and vitality supplements, and oat kernel extract in soothing skin care. Oats are a familiar, trusted food, which gives both uses a strong natural story.
Arizone International supplies Avena Sativa Extract for nutraceutical, herbal, cosmetic and food manufacturers, private label brands, wholesalers and bulk buyers. Standardisation, extract ratio, carrier, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.
Avena sativa is the cereal grass that gives us oats. For supplements, the green aerial parts of the plant are harvested before the grain ripens, a material known as green oat or oat straw, and extracted. For cosmetics, the oat kernel is used, as it is rich in beta-glucans and avenanthramides, natural compounds known for their soothing feel on skin.
Because the two types of extract are made from different parts of the plant, it is important to state which one your product needs.
To make the extract, the dried plant material is cleaned, milled and extracted with water, hydro-alcohol or another suitable solvent. The liquid extract is filtered, concentrated and usually spray-dried into a fine, free-flowing powder. It can then be standardised to a marker compound or supplied as a ratio extract, such as 10:1, and any carrier used, such as maltodextrin, is stated on the specification.
Formulation, dosage, safety assessment, labelling and permitted claims of the finished product must comply with the regulations of the intended market. Oats may be cross-contaminated with gluten-containing grains, so gluten labelling rules should be checked for products aimed at people with coeliac disease.
State clearly whether the extract is made from green oat herb or oat kernel, as the two are used for different purposes.
Ask for gluten test results if you plan to make a gluten-free claim.
Green oat extract is usually supplied as a ratio extract such as 4:1 or 10:1 for capsules and tablets, while oat kernel extracts for cosmetics are often supplied as liquids or water-soluble powders. Tell us your end product so we can suggest the right grade and carrier.
