Peppermint Leaf is the dried leaf of Mentha x piperita, one of the most popular herbs for tea in the world. Its cool, fresh flavour comes from menthol, and dried peppermint is used in herbal teas, confectionery, seasonings and oral care products.

Arizone International supplies Peppermint Leaf to herbal, Ayurvedic, food and nutraceutical manufacturers, traders, private label brands and bulk buyers. Grade, cut size, cleaning level, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.

What Is

Peppermint is a natural hybrid of watermint and spearmint. It is a perennial herb with dark green, toothed leaves and purple stems. In India, mint is grown on a large scale in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Bihar, mainly for oil, with leaves also dried for tea.

The leaves contain essential oil rich in menthol and menthone, which gives peppermint its cooling taste and smell. The leaves are harvested before flowering, dried at controlled temperatures and sorted into whole, tea-bag cut or rubbed grades.

After harvest, the material is dried in the sun or shade, then cleaned to remove stones, dust, stems and other foreign matter, and sorted by size and quality. It can be supplied whole, cut into smaller pieces for tea and extraction, or milled into coarse or fine powder. For food and ready-to-use products, steam sterilisation can be arranged to bring microbial counts within export limits.

Tips for Buyers and Formulators

Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) and field mint (Mentha arvensis) are different, so state which one you need for your tea or flavour.

Ask for volatile oil content, as it decides the strength of flavour in the finished tea.

For tea bags, a cut size of 1 mm to 3 mm with low dust gives the best infusion and appearance. Peppermint blends well with green tea, chamomile, fennel and liquorice. Pack the leaves in sealed, lined bags and store them cool and dry, as the menthol aroma fades over time.
