Chamomile Flowers are the dried flower heads of German chamomile, Matricaria chamomilla. With their yellow domes and small white petals, they are the raw material for one of the most popular herbal teas in the world, and a much-loved ingredient in natural skincare and herbal products.
Arizone International supplies dried whole Chamomile Flowers and tea-cut grades in bulk for tea brands, herbal blenders, cosmetic manufacturers, extract processors, wholesalers and exporters.
How to Recognise Good Chamomile
High-quality chamomile is made mostly of whole flower heads, not crushed petals, stems and dust. Good flowers are golden-yellow with white petals, and they smell sweet, fresh and a little like apples. The German chamomile flower head has a hollow, cone-shaped centre, which is one of the easiest ways to tell it apart from look-alike daisies. When flowers are poorly dried or stored too long, they turn brown and lose their aroma and essential oil.
Chamomile is grown in many countries, including Egypt, Eastern Europe and India. In India, chamomile has been cultivated in states such as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, often as a winter crop. Flowers are picked by hand or with small combs, several times over the flowering season.
German vs Roman Chamomile
German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is an annual and is the type most used for teas and extracts. Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) is a low-growing perennial, often used for essential oil and lawns. They share a similar apple-like scent but have different chemistry.
