Tongkat Ali Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Tongkat Ali Powder is made from the dried roots of Eurycoma longifolia, a slender tree from the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Known in Malaysia as tongkat ali and in Indonesia as pasak bumi, the root is intensely bitter and has long been used in traditional Malay and Indonesian medicine as a tonic for men's vitality, energy and stamina.
Arizone International supplies Tongkat Ali Root Powder and standardised extract for supplement manufacturers, men's wellness brands, energy drink makers, wholesalers and exporters.
The "Walking Stick" of the Forest
The name tongkat ali means "Ali's walking stick" in Malay, possibly referring to the long, twisted roots. Eurycoma longifolia grows in the lowland forests of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. The tree takes several years to develop roots suitable for harvest. Traditionally, root chips were boiled to make a bitter tea, and tongkat ali is still added to coffee drinks in Malaysia, sold as "tongkat ali coffee".
Because wild tongkat ali has been heavily harvested, Malaysia and Indonesia regulate its collection and trade, and cultivated sources are increasingly important.
What Tongkat Ali Contains
- QuassinoidsEspecially eurycomanone, the main marker compound, responsible for much of the bitterness.
- EurypeptidesSmall bioactive peptides studied in relation to the root's traditional uses.
- Polysaccharides and GlycoproteinsOften used as quality markers in water extracts.
- Alkaloids and Other CompoundsPresent in smaller amounts.
Root Powder vs Extract
Tongkat ali root powder is the simply dried and milled root. Standardised extracts, such as 100:1 or 200:1 ratios or grades specified by eurycomanone or glycoprotein content, are more concentrated and are used in most clinical studies and branded supplements. We supply both and can advise on the right form.

Safety and Regulatory Notes
Tongkat ali is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, children, or people with hormone-sensitive conditions, heart disease or high blood pressure without medical advice. Some tongkat ali products on the market have been found adulterated with undeclared drugs or contaminated with heavy metals, so testing and reliable sourcing are essential. Several countries regulate the herb as an ingredient in supplements, so buyers should check their local rules.
