Licorice Root Powder is made from the dried roots and stolons of Glycyrrhiza glabra, known in India as mulethi and in Ayurveda as Yashtimadhu, meaning "sweet stick". The root is naturally many times sweeter than sugar and has been used for thousands of years in teas, confectionery and traditional remedies for the throat and stomach.
Arizone International supplies Licorice Root Powder and cut root for Ayurvedic manufacturers, herbal tea brands, confectionery and flavour companies, cosmetic makers, wholesalers and exporters.
A Root of Many Cultures
Licorice grows wild and is cultivated in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Central Asia, with major supplies from countries such as Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and China. In India, it is grown on a small scale in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and other regions. Pieces of licorice were found in Tutankhamun's tomb, and Chinese medicine uses licorice in a large share of its classical formulas. In India, a stick of mulethi is a familiar remedy to chew for a sore throat or hoarse voice.

Safety Notes
Glycyrrhizin in large amounts over a long time can raise blood pressure, lower potassium and cause fluid retention. Regular licorice should be avoided by people with high blood pressure, heart or kidney disease, low potassium or during pregnancy, and it can interact with diuretics, steroids and heart medicines. Several health authorities advise limiting daily glycyrrhizin intake, and labels should follow local rules. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) is available for products that need lower glycyrrhizin.
Quality Parameters
