Ginseng Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Ginseng Powder is made from the dried roots of ginseng plants, most commonly Panax ginseng (Korean or Asian ginseng) and Panax quinquefolius (American ginseng). It has a distinctive earthy, bittersweet taste and has been one of the most prized tonic herbs in East Asia for more than two thousand years.
Arizone International supplies Ginseng Root Powder, as well as standardised ginseng extract, for tea and beverage brands, supplement manufacturers, energy drink makers, cosmetic companies, wholesalers and exporters.
About Ginseng
True ginseng belongs to the Panax genus, from the Greek word for "all-healing". The roots grow slowly in shady forests and are usually harvested after four to six years of cultivation. Korea and northeastern China are the main sources of Panax ginseng, while American ginseng is grown mainly in Wisconsin in the United States and in Ontario, Canada. Wild ginseng roots are rare and can sell for extraordinary prices in Asian markets.
White and Red Ginseng
- White GinsengRoots that are simply washed, peeled or unpeeled, and dried.
- Red GinsengRoots that are steamed before drying, which turns them reddish-brown and changes some of their compounds. Korean red ginseng is especially famous.
- American GinsengTraditionally considered more cooling and calming than Asian ginseng.
What Ginseng Root Contains
The key active compounds are ginsenosides, a group of triterpene saponins. Raw root powder usually contains a few percent of ginsenosides, while standardised extracts are concentrated to higher levels. Ginseng also contains polysaccharides, polyacetylenes and peptides.
Applications
- Ginseng teas and instant tea granules
- Energy drinks and functional beverages
- Capsules and tablets for vitality and focus
- Herbal tonics and traditional-style blends
- Skincare products, especially in Korean-style cosmetics
- Confectionery, candies and honey-ginseng products
Not to Be Confused With
Several plants are called "ginseng" but are not Panax species, such as Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus), Indian ginseng (ashwagandha) and Brazilian ginseng (Pfaffia). These have different chemistry and uses, so buyers should always specify the botanical name.
Safety Notes
Ginseng may cause sleeplessness, nervousness or headaches in some people. It may interact with blood thinners, diabetes medicines, antidepressants and stimulants. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with uncontrolled high blood pressure without medical advice.
Quality Parameters
- Panax species, origin and root age

Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Specify Panax ginseng, Panax quinquefolius or Indian ginseng (ashwagandha), as they are different plants with different uses. Ask for ginsenoside content on the COA if you need a Panax ginseng powder. People taking blood thinners or diabetes medicines should consult their doctor.
