Giloy Powder is made from the dried stems of Tinospora cordifolia, a climbing plant known in Ayurveda as Guduchi and Amrita, "the root of immortality". It is one of the most famous Ayurvedic herbs for immunity and general wellness, and its popularity in India grew enormously in recent years as giloy kadha became a household drink.
Arizone International supplies Giloy Powder, giloy stem cuttings and giloy satva for Ayurvedic manufacturers, wellness brands, juice and kadha makers, wholesalers and exporters.
About Giloy
Tinospora cordifolia is a large, woody climber with heart-shaped leaves that grows over trees and hedges across India. It is often said that giloy growing on a neem tree (neem giloy) is especially valued in tradition. The stem, the main part used, has a papery outer bark and a bitter taste. A popular story in Indian folklore links the name Amrita to the drops of nectar that fell to earth during the churning of the ocean.
For powder, mature stems are cut, washed, dried and milled. Giloy satva, a traditional starch-rich extract, is made by crushing fresh stems in water and collecting the white sediment.
Traditional Uses in Ayurveda
- Immunity and RasayanaConsidered one of the leading Rasayana (rejuvenating) herbs.
- Seasonal FeversTraditionally used in formulas for recurring fevers, often with tulsi, ginger and black pepper.
- Digestion and LiverUsed in bitter digestive and liver formulas.
- Metabolic and Joint WellnessFound in traditional formulas for blood sugar and joint comfort.
What Giloy Contains
Giloy stems contain diterpenoid lactones, glycosides such as tinosporaside and cordifolioside, alkaloids including berberine and magnoflorine, steroids and polysaccharides. These compounds give the herb its bitterness and are the focus of much of the research on it.
Applications
- Giloy churna, capsules and tablets
- Giloy kadha and immunity herbal blends
- Giloy juice and ready-to-drink herbal beverages
- Ayurvedic formulations such as Samshamani Vati and Amritarishta
- Private label wellness products
Identity Matters
In recent years, a few case reports in India linked giloy use to liver problems. India's Ministry of AYUSH responded that many such cases may involve misidentified plants, such as Tinospora crispa, a look-alike species, and stressed the importance of correct identification. This makes botanical authentication a key part of giloy quality. We verify identity for every lot, and we recommend that consumers use giloy in the advised amounts and consult a doctor if they have liver problems, autoimmune conditions, diabetes (as giloy may lower blood sugar) or are pregnant.
