Beetroot Powder is made from fresh red beetroots (Beta vulgaris) that are washed, sliced, dried and milled into a fine, deep-red powder. It keeps the earthy sweetness, natural colour and much of the nutrition of fresh beet, in a form that is easy to store, transport and mix into foods, drinks, supplements and cosmetics.
Arizone International supplies Beetroot Powder in bulk to food and beverage manufacturers, sports nutrition brands, supplement makers, cosmetic companies and exporters, with custom mesh sizes and packing.
How Beetroot Powder Is Made
Beetroot is grown across India, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, mostly as a winter crop. For powder, fully grown roots are trimmed, washed and cut into thin slices. The slices are dried at controlled temperatures, either in hot-air dryers or by spray drying beet juice, and then milled and sieved. Gentle drying matters, because beetroot's red pigments and nitrates are sensitive to high heat.
- Dried Beetroot PowderMade from whole dried beet slices. It contains the natural fibre of the root and has a slightly coarse texture and earthy taste.
- Beetroot Juice PowderMade by spray drying beet juice, often on a carrier. It dissolves easily in water and has a brighter colour, which suits drink mixes.
What Beetroot Powder Contains

- Natural Sugars and FibreGive the powder its mild sweetness and body.
- Folate, Potassium and IronPresent in useful amounts, depending on the raw material.
Applications

Research Interest
Studies have looked at beetroot juice and its nitrate content in relation to exercise performance and healthy blood pressure. Results are promising in some studies, but these are research findings, not approved claims. Any health claim on a finished product must follow the rules of the market where it is sold.
Using Beetroot Powder as a Natural Colour
Beetroot Powder gives shades from soft pink to deep red. Its colour is most stable in cold or mildly heated products, such as drinks, dairy, ice cream and frostings. Long baking at high temperatures and very high pH can dull the colour, so recipes may need to be adjusted. In the EU and some other markets, beetroot used for colour may be labelled as a colouring food or as beetroot red (E162), depending on how it is processed.
Quality Parameters
- Colour, taste and aroma typical of beetroot
- Mesh size (commonly 60 to 100 mesh, or as required)
- Moisture content, usually below 6% to 8%
- Betanin or nitrate content, where specified
- Microbiological limits, with steam sterilisation available

Packaging and Storage
Beetroot Powder absorbs moisture easily, so it is packed in multi-layer bags or HDPE bags with a food-grade liner, usually 20 to 25 kg, with smaller retail pouches on request. Store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and reseal opened bags tightly to prevent caking and colour loss.
