Wild Cherry Capsules
Part of our Capsules range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Wild Cherry Capsules are herbal supplements made from the inner bark of Prunus serotina, the wild black cherry tree of North America. Wild cherry bark has a long history as a traditional cough and throat herb, and it has been used for generations in cough syrups and herbal lozenges.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Wild Cherry Capsules with properly processed wild cherry bark powder or extract, for respiratory wellness brands, herbal companies and private label businesses.
A North American Remedy
Prunus serotina is a large forest tree native to eastern North America, valued for its fine reddish-brown timber used in furniture. Native American peoples used the inner bark to make teas for coughs, colds and digestion, and European settlers adopted the practice. By the nineteenth century, wild cherry bark was listed in the United States Pharmacopeia, and "wild cherry" became a familiar flavour and ingredient in cough syrups.
The bark is collected in autumn, when its active content is highest. Only the inner bark is used, and it is carefully dried.
What Wild Cherry Bark Contains
- PrunasinA cyanogenic glycoside that is traditionally linked with the bark's calming effect on coughs.
- TanninsGiving the bark an astringent quality.
- BenzaldehydeFormed from prunasin, giving the bark its bitter-almond aroma.
- Coumarins and Phenolic AcidsPresent in smaller amounts.
Handled With Care
Because prunasin can release small amounts of hydrogen cyanide, wild cherry bark must be processed correctly and used only at appropriate doses. Traditional preparation, drying and extraction reduce the free cyanide content. We work only with bark and extracts that are tested and suitable for supplement use, and we recommend clear dosage and duration guidance on the label.
Applications
- Cough and throat comfort supplements
- Respiratory wellness blends with licorice, marshmallow root, thyme or elderberry
- Seasonal wellness formulas

Safety Notes
Wild cherry bark is intended for short-term use only. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, by children without professional advice, or by people with liver problems. Leaves and seeds of the tree are toxic and are never used. People with a persistent cough should see a doctor to rule out serious causes.
Quality Considerations
- Prunus serotina inner bark identity
- Cyanogenic glycoside content within safe limits

Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Wild cherry bark is meant for short-term use, so labels should suggest limited use and advise against use in pregnancy.
