Tulsi Capsules
Part of our Capsules range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Tulsi Capsules are Ayurvedic herbal supplements made from the leaves of holy basil, Ocimum tenuiflorum (also called Ocimum sanctum). Tulsi is the sacred plant grown in a special pot in the courtyard of countless Indian homes, and in Ayurveda it is revered as "the queen of herbs" and a classic adaptogen.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Tulsi Capsules with leaf powder or standardised extract, for Ayurvedic brands, immune and stress wellness companies and private label businesses.
The Incomparable One
In Sanskrit, tulsi means "the incomparable one". The plant is sacred to Vishnu and Krishna, and many families water and worship the tulsi plant every morning. Tulsi Vivah, the ceremonial marriage of tulsi to Vishnu, is celebrated after Diwali. On a practical level, a few fresh leaves boiled in tea, often with ginger and black pepper, are the first home remedy many Indians reach for when they feel a cold coming.
Types of Tulsi
- Rama TulsiGreen leaves, milder and cooling.
- Krishna (Shyama) TulsiPurple leaves and stems, with a stronger, peppery flavour.
- Vana TulsiOcimum gratissimum, a wild, lemon-clove scented type.
We can supply single-variety or blended tulsi, depending on your product.
What Tulsi Contains
- Eugenol, the main aromatic compound, also found in cloves
- Ursolic acid and oleanolic acid
- Rosmarinic acid and other polyphenols
- Flavonoids such as orientin and vicenin
Applications
Tulsi is widely regarded as an adaptogen, a herb that helps the body cope with everyday stress. Several small human studies have looked at its effects on stress, blood sugar and immune function. Tulsi Capsules are used in:
- Stress and adaptogen supplements with ashwagandha or brahmi
- Immune and seasonal wellness formulas with giloy, ginger and mulethi
- Respiratory comfort Ayurvedic products
- Blood sugar and metabolic wellness blends
- Antioxidant and general wellness supplements
- Private label Ayurvedic ranges
Formulation Options
We can fill capsules with shade-dried tulsi leaf powder or with an extract standardised to ursolic acid (commonly 2.5%) or eugenol. Typical fills are 400 mg to 500 mg per capsule. Vegetarian HPMC capsules and bottle or blister packs are available.
Safety Notes
Tulsi is widely consumed as a food and tea. In concentrated supplement form, it may lower blood sugar and may slow blood clotting, so people on diabetes medicines or blood thinners should consult a doctor. It is not recommended for women trying to conceive, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding, without medical advice.
Quality Considerations
- Ocimum tenuiflorum identity, separate from sweet basil
- Ursolic acid or eugenol content where specified
- Colour and aroma, showing correct drying
- Heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology
- Batch consistency and Certificate of Analysis
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
