Triphala Capsules are classic Ayurvedic supplements made from three dried fruits: Amla (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica). "Tri" means three and "phala" means fruit. Triphala is one of the most widely used formulas in Ayurveda, traditionally taken for gentle digestive support and overall rejuvenation.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Triphala Capsules with traditional fruit powder or standardised extract, for Ayurvedic brands, digestive wellness companies and private label businesses.
Three Fruits, One Formula
Each fruit in Triphala is linked with one of the three doshas in Ayurvedic theory. Amla is cooling and associated with Pitta, Haritaki with Vata, and Bibhitaki with Kapha. Together, they are said to balance all three, which is why Triphala is considered suitable for regular use by many people. Classical texts such as the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita describe Triphala, and it is still one of the first remedies an Indian grandmother might suggest for sluggish digestion.
Traditionally, the three fruits are used in equal parts by weight, though some formulas vary the ratio.
What Triphala Contains
- TanninsIncluding chebulagic acid, chebulinic acid and emblicanins, which make Triphala very astringent.
- Gallic Acid and Ellagic AcidCommon markers for quality testing.
- Vitamin CMainly from Amla.
- FlavonoidsSuch as quercetin and rutin.
Applications
- Gentle digestive regularity supplements
- Detox and cleansing Ayurvedic formulas
- Antioxidant and Rasayana products
- Eye wellness, following traditional use
- Oral and gum wellness products
- Weight-management blends with guggul
- Private label Ayurvedic ranges
Formulation Options
Triphala powder is famously bitter and sour, so capsules are much easier to take than the traditional churna. We can fill capsules with equal-part fruit powder or with an extract standardised to tannins (for example 40% to 45%) or gallic acid. Typical fills are 400 mg to 500 mg per capsule in gelatin or vegetarian shells. Custom ratios are available.
Safety Notes
Triphala may cause loose stools or mild stomach discomfort, especially at higher doses. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. People with diarrhoea or those on blood thinners or diabetes medicines should seek advice.
Quality Considerations
- Correct identity of all three fruits
- De-seeded pericarp used for Haritaki and Bibhitaki
- Tannin and gallic acid content where specified
- Moisture, ash and foreign matter
- Heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology
Triphala is also known in Ayurveda for its use as an eyewash and gargle, made by soaking the powder in water overnight. Capsules, however, are the most convenient format for daily internal use, and they avoid the strong taste completely.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
