Shatavari Capsules are Ayurvedic herbal supplements made from the roots of Asparagus racemosus. Shatavari is the most important women's herb in Ayurveda, traditionally used to nourish and support women through every stage of life, from menstruation to motherhood to menopause.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Shatavari Capsules with root powder or saponin-standardised extract, for Ayurvedic brands, women's wellness companies and private label businesses.
"She Who Possesses a Hundred Husbands"
The Sanskrit name Shatavari is often translated as "she who possesses a hundred husbands", a poetic way of describing the herb's reputation for supporting female vitality and fertility. Another reading links it to its many roots, "shat" meaning a hundred. Asparagus racemosus is a climbing plant related to the garden asparagus. It grows throughout India, from the Himalayas to the south, and has clusters of pale, finger-like tuberous roots.
In Ayurveda, Shatavari is described as cooling, nourishing and a Rasayana. It is used in classical preparations such as Shatavari Kalpa, Shatavari Ghrita and Phala Ghrita, and is a traditional galactagogue, given to new mothers to support breast milk.
What Shatavari Contains
- Steroidal SaponinsKnown as shatavarins, the main markers used for standardisation.
- Polysaccharides and MucilageGiving the root its soft, soothing quality.
- FlavonoidsSuch as quercetin and rutin.
- Racemosol and Other CompoundsPresent in smaller amounts.
Applications
- Women's wellness and hormonal balance supplements
- Lactation support blends with fenugreek and fennel
- Menstrual comfort formulas with ashoka and lodhra
- Menopause comfort products
- Digestive and acidity-soothing Ayurvedic formulas
- General Rasayana and vitality products
- Private label women's health ranges
Formulation Options
We can fill capsules with Shatavari root powder, following traditional practice, or with an extract standardised to saponins (commonly 20% to 40%). Typical fills are 400 mg to 500 mg per capsule in gelatin or vegetarian HPMC shells. Shatavari powder is slightly sticky and hygroscopic, so proper drying and moisture-proof packaging are important.
Safety Notes
Shatavari is generally well tolerated. People with hormone-sensitive conditions, those allergic to asparagus, and anyone taking diuretics or diabetes medicines should consult a doctor. Pregnant women should use it only under the guidance of a qualified practitioner.
Quality Considerations
- Asparagus racemosus root identity
- Saponin content by a stated method
- Moisture, ash and foreign matter
- Heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology
- Batch consistency and Certificate of Analysis
Shatavari roots are collected after the plant has grown for a year or more. The outer skin is removed, and the roots are dried before milling, which helps give the powder its pale colour and mild, slightly sweet taste.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Choose a saponin-standardised Shatavari extract for a consistent dose, or root powder for traditional-style products. Shatavari is often combined with Ashoka or Ashwagandha in women's wellness formulas.
