Rose Hips Capsules
Part of our Capsules range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Rose Hips Capsules are supplements made from the fruit of wild roses, especially Rosa canina, the dog rose. Rose hips are the round, red-orange fruits that form after rose petals fall, and they are one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C among common wild fruits.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Rose Hips Capsules with rose hip powder or extract, for vitamin C, joint and skin wellness brands and private label businesses.
A Wartime Vitamin Source
During the Second World War, when citrus fruit could not reach Britain, the government organised volunteers, including schoolchildren, to collect wild rose hips from hedgerows. The hips were made into rose hip syrup and given to children as a source of vitamin C. In Scandinavia, rose hip soup (nyponsoppa) is still a traditional dish, and rose hip tea is popular across Europe.
Rosa canina grows wild in hedgerows and woodland edges in Europe, Western Asia and North Africa. Rose hips from Chile and parts of Eastern Europe are also important in the global trade.
What Rose Hips Contain
- Vitamin CFresh hips can be very rich in vitamin C, though levels fall with drying and storage.
- GalactolipidsParticularly GOPO, a compound studied for joint comfort.
- CarotenoidsIncluding lycopene and beta-carotene, which give the orange-red colour.
- Polyphenols and FibrePresent in whole-fruit powder.
Applications
Several clinical studies, mainly from Denmark, have looked at a specific rose hip powder for joint comfort and mobility, which has made rose hip a popular natural ingredient in joint products. Rose Hips Capsules are used in:
- Joint comfort and mobility supplements
- Natural vitamin C and immune support products
- Skin wellness and collagen support blends
- Antioxidant and healthy-ageing formulas
- Private label natural vitamin ranges
Formulation Options
We can fill capsules with whole rose hip powder (seed and shell), shell-only powder, or rose hip extract standardised to vitamin C. For joint products, doses are usually several grams per day across multiple capsules. For vitamin C products, rose hip is often combined with ascorbic acid to reach a clear label value. Vegetarian HPMC capsules are well suited.
Safety Notes
Rose hips are generally well tolerated. High doses may cause stomach upset. Because of its vitamin C content, people with kidney stones or iron overload conditions should seek advice. People on blood thinners or lithium should consult a doctor. Rose hip seeds have fine hairs that can irritate if not processed properly, so only properly milled material should be used.
Quality Considerations
- Rosa canina or specified species identity
- Vitamin C content by HPLC
- Moisture and freshness
- Heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology
- Batch consistency and Certificate of Analysis
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Rose hip powder with seeds and shells is often used in joint products, while shell-only powder is richer in vitamin C.
