Manjistha Capsules are Ayurvedic herbal supplements made from the roots of Rubia cordifolia, known as Indian madder. The roots are a deep red colour, and for centuries they were used both as a natural dye for textiles and as one of Ayurveda's most important herbs for the skin and blood.

Arizone International manufactures and supplies Manjistha Capsules with root powder or extract, for Ayurvedic brands, skin wellness companies and private label businesses.

Dye Plant and Medicine

Rubia cordifolia is a climbing plant with rough, square stems and small greenish flowers, found in the hills of India, including the Himalayas and the Western Ghats. Its red roots were one of the main sources of red dye in India before synthetic colours arrived, and the colour of many traditional block-printed and hand-dyed fabrics came from madder.

In Ayurveda, Manjistha is described as one of the best "blood-purifying" herbs, traditionally used to support clear skin, healthy lymph flow and cooling of excess Pitta. It is a key ingredient in classical formulas such as Manjishthadi Kwath and Mahamanjishthadi Kadha, and in many herbal face packs.

What Manjistha Contains

  • AnthraquinonesIncluding purpurin and munjistin, responsible for the red colour.
  • NaphthoquinonesSuch as mollugin and rubimaillin.
  • Triterpenoids and GlycosidesPresent in smaller amounts.

Applications

  • Skin clarity and "beauty from within" supplements
  • Ayurvedic blood-purifier formulas with neem, turmeric and guduchi
  • Complexion and pigmentation support blends
  • Lymphatic and detox wellness products
  • Women's wellness formulas
  • Private label Ayurvedic ranges

Manjistha supplements should be positioned as supporting skin wellness, with claims that follow local rules.

Formulation Options

We can fill capsules with Manjistha root powder or with a concentrated extract. Typical fills are 400 mg to 500 mg per capsule in gelatin or vegetarian shells. Blends with other skin herbs are very common and can be made to your formula.

Good to Know

Manjistha can turn urine a harmless pink or reddish colour, due to its natural pigments. It is worth mentioning this on the label to avoid alarming consumers. Manjistha is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and people taking blood thinners or other regular medication should consult a doctor.

Quality Considerations

  • Rubia cordifolia root identity, as stems are sometimes mixed in
  • Colour value and anthraquinone content where specified
  • Moisture, ash and foreign matter
  • Heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology
  • Batch consistency and Certificate of Analysis

Manjistha root is thin and woody, and good material shows a deep red colour when broken. We check this colour, along with the absence of stems and soil, before milling and encapsulation.

Tips for Buyers and Formulators

Manjistha can colour urine red, which is harmless; mention this on the label to avoid customer worries. It pairs well with neem and turmeric in skin wellness blends.
