About Grapefruit Seed Extract
Grapefruit is a relatively young fruit. It was first described in Barbados in the eighteenth century as a natural cross between the sweet orange and the pomelo. The name is thought to come from the way the fruit hangs in clusters, like grapes.
Grapefruit seed extract was developed in the 1970s by a physicist and gardener, Jacob Harich, who noticed that grapefruit seeds in his compost did not seem to rot. The extract is made by grinding the seeds and pulp, then processing them into a concentrated, bitter liquid or powder that is rich in flavonoids.
