Daruharindra Capsules
Part of our Capsules range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Daruharidra Capsules are Ayurvedic herbal supplements made from the stem and root of Berberis aristata, the Indian barberry. Daruharidra means "wood turmeric" in Sanskrit, a name that makes sense the moment you cut the wood: it is a deep, bright yellow, coloured by berberine.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Daruharidra Capsules with powder or berberine-standardised extract, for Ayurvedic brands, metabolic wellness companies and private label businesses.
About Daruharidra
Berberis aristata is a spiny shrub that grows on the slopes of the Himalayas, from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to Nepal. It carries yellow flowers and small bluish berries. Ayurvedic texts describe Daruharidra as bitter and cooling, and traditionally use it for the skin, the eyes, the liver and for balancing Kapha and Pitta.
One of its best known preparations is Rasanjana (Rasaut), a thick, dark concentrate made by boiling the wood in water and reducing it. Daruharidra is also part of classical formulas such as Darvyadi Kwath and appears in many skin-care preparations.
Berberine: The Key Compound
The main active compound in Daruharidra is berberine, an alkaloid that has attracted enormous research interest in recent years for its role in glucose and lipid metabolism. Daruharidra also contains related alkaloids such as palmatine, berbamine and jatrorrhizine, which give a fuller profile than isolated berberine.
- Traditional Powder CapsulesMade from stem or root powder, following classical Ayurvedic use.
- Standardised Extract CapsulesCommonly 5% to 10% berberine, or higher on request.
- Polyherbal BlendsWith neem, turmeric, manjistha or guduchi for skin, or with jamun and methi for metabolism.

- Skin clarity and "blood purifier" Ayurvedic formulas
- Liver and digestive wellness products
- Traditional single-herb Ayurvedic capsule ranges
- Private label Ayurvedic products
Claims for berberine-containing products must follow local regulations and should not suggest they replace medical treatment.
Safety Notes
Berberine can interact with many prescription medicines, including diabetes drugs, blood thinners and some drugs processed by the liver. It is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding or for newborns. Some people may experience stomach upset or constipation. Labels should advise consulting a healthcare professional before use.
Quality Considerations
- Correct Berberis species, as several are traded as Daruharidra
- Berberine content by HPLC
- Screening for substitution with Coscinium fenestratum (tree turmeric)
- Moisture, ash, heavy metals, pesticides and microbial limits
- Responsible, traceable Himalayan sourcing
In Ayurvedic pharmacy, Daruharidra is often paired with turmeric (Haridra) itself, and the two appear together in several classical skin and metabolic formulas. We can prepare this combination in a single capsule if your product calls for it.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Ask for berberine content on the COA to compare Daruharidra extracts fairly, and consider combining it with other Ayurvedic herbs for skin or metabolic formulas.
