Dandelion Root Capsules are herbal supplements made from the dried root of Taraxacum officinale. The humble dandelion is one of the most recognisable wild plants in the world, and its bitter root has been part of European, Chinese and Native American herbal traditions for centuries, mostly for the liver and digestion.

Arizone International manufactures and supplies Dandelion Root Capsules with root powder or extract, for liver and detox product brands, nutraceutical companies and private label businesses.

A Weed Worth Knowing

Gardeners dig it out, but herbalists harvest it on purpose. The dandelion's taproot stores nutrients through winter, and roots dug in autumn are richest in inulin, while spring roots are more bitter. In traditional Chinese medicine, dandelion is known as Pu Gong Ying, and in Europe it was listed in official pharmacopoeias as Taraxaci radix.

Dandelion leaves and roots have different uses. The leaves are more often used as a mild diuretic, while the root is the part used for liver, gallbladder and digestive support.

What the Root Contains

  • Bitter PrinciplesSesquiterpene lactones such as taraxacin, which stimulate digestive secretions.
  • InulinA prebiotic fibre, often present in large amounts in autumn roots.
  • TriterpenesIncluding taraxasterol and taraxerol.
  • Phenolic Acids and MineralsSuch as chicoric acid and potassium.

Applications

European herbal monographs list dandelion root for restoring liver and bile function and for mild digestive complaints such as bloating and slow digestion. Dandelion Root Capsules are used in:

  • Liver wellness and detox supplements
  • Liver blends with milk thistle, artichoke, turmeric or kutki
  • Digestive bitters in capsule form
  • Prebiotic and gut-health formulas
  • Sea moss and cleansing blends
  • Private label herbal ranges

Formulation Options

We can fill capsules with cut and milled dandelion root powder, or with a concentrated extract such as 4:1 or 10:1. Typical fills are 400 mg to 550 mg per capsule. Root powder is fibrous and absorbs moisture, so we recommend bottles with desiccant or blister packs. Vegetarian HPMC capsules suit this plant-based product.

Safety Notes

People allergic to plants in the daisy family, such as ragweed or chamomile, may react to dandelion. Those with gallstones, bile duct blockage or stomach ulcers should consult a doctor first. Dandelion may interact with diuretics, lithium, some antibiotics and diabetes medicines.

Quality Considerations

  • Taraxacum officinale root identity
  • Moisture, ash and foreign matter
  • Inulin or marker content where specified
  • Heavy metals and pesticide residues, since dandelion often grows near roads and farms
  • Microbiology and batch consistency

Tips for Buyers and Formulators

Roasted dandelion root has a milder, coffee-like taste, while raw root is more bitter; choose based on your product. Dandelion is traditionally combined with milk thistle and artichoke in liver blends, and we can make these as one capsule.
