Burdock Root Capsules are herbal supplements made from the long, fleshy taproot of Arctium lappa. In Japan and Korea, burdock root is a common vegetable called gobo. In Western and Chinese herbal traditions, it has long been used as a "blood purifier", a cleansing herb for the skin, liver and digestion.

About Burdock
Burdock is a large biennial plant with broad leaves and round, prickly flower heads that stick to clothing and animal fur. A Swiss engineer, George de Mestral, noticed how firmly burdock burrs clung to his dog's coat after a walk in the 1940s. Studying them under a microscope led him to invent Velcro.
The root is harvested in the autumn of the first year, when it is at its most nutritious. It can grow very long, sometimes close to a metre, and is sliced and dried for herbal use.

Safety Notes
Burdock belongs to the daisy family, so people allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums or marigolds may react to it. It may lower blood sugar and has a mild diuretic effect, so people on diabetes medicines or diuretics should seek medical advice. It is not recommended during pregnancy.
In the wild, burdock root can be confused with the root of belladonna (deadly nightshade), so correct botanical identification and reliable sourcing are essential.
