Spike Lavender Oil
Part of our Oils range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Spike Lavender Oil is a fresh, sharp, herbaceous and camphoraceous essential oil steam distilled from the flowering tops of Lavandula latifolia. It is a wild relative of true lavender with a stronger, more penetrating scent, and it is used in aromatherapy, massage blends, soaps, household products and perfumery.
Arizone International supplies Spike Lavender Oil for aromatherapy brands, massage and wellness companies, soap and household product manufacturers, and fragrance houses.
About Spike Lavender
Spike lavender grows wild on the dry, sunny, low-altitude hills of Spain, Portugal and southern France. Spain is the main producer. Unlike true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), which grows at higher altitudes, spike lavender prefers warmer, lower ground. The plant has broader leaves and branched flower stems. Where the two species meet, they cross naturally to form lavandin.
Spike lavender oil has been used for centuries by painters as a solvent for oil paints and varnishes, a use that continues among some artists today.
Lavender Family Compared

Traditional Use
In traditional aromatherapy, spike lavender is used in blends for sore muscles, for a clear breathing feeling and for minor skin care. These are traditional uses, not medical claims.
Safety and Dilution
Spike Lavender Oil should always be diluted before skin contact. Because of its camphor and 1,8-cineole content, it should not be used on or near the face of young children, during pregnancy or by people with epilepsy. Linalool can oxidise over time, so store it properly. Not for internal use. Keep out of reach of children. Use within IFRA standards and local regulations.
Blending Tips
Spike lavender blends well with rosemary, eucalyptus, pine, lavender, lavandin, clary sage, peppermint and lemon.
Quality Parameters
- Botanical identity (Lavandula latifolia)
- Linalool, 1,8-cineole and camphor content by gas chromatography
- Specific gravity, refractive index and optical rotation
- Aroma evaluation
- Screening for lavandin or synthetic adulteration
Packaging and Storage
Supplied in aluminium bottles, HDPE containers or drums. Store tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Spike lavender is stronger and more camphoraceous than lavender, so it suits muscle-rub blends and household products rather than delicate perfumes. It is also a traditional solvent for artists' oil paints.
