Galangal Oil is a warm, spicy, fresh and slightly camphoraceous essential oil steam distilled from the rhizomes of galangal, a relative of ginger. It combines ginger-like warmth with a sharper, more peppery and piney note, and it is used in food flavours, beverages, perfumery, aromatherapy and traditional preparations.
Arizone International supplies Galangal Oil for flavour houses, food and beverage companies, fragrance manufacturers and aromatherapy brands.
Greater and Lesser Galangal
- Greater Galangal (Alpinia galanga)The most common type, widely used in Thai and Indonesian cooking. In India it is known as kulanjan or rasna (though rasna may also refer to other plants).
- Lesser Galangal (Alpinia officinarum)Smaller and more pungent, native to southern China. Used in traditional Chinese medicine and in some European bitters and liqueurs.
Kaempferia galanga, known in India as chandramula or kacholam, is sometimes also called "galangal" or "aromatic ginger" and has its own distinct aroma. Please specify which type you require.
About Galangal
Galangal is a tropical perennial of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) native to Southeast Asia. Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Galangal oil gives Thai and Indonesian flavours their sharp, piney-ginger character, which ginger oil alone cannot copy. In sauces and soup bases, combine it with lemongrass and kaffir lime for an authentic taste.
