Cinnamon Bark Oil is a rich, sweet, warm and spicy essential oil steam distilled from the inner bark of Cinnamomum verum (also called Cinnamomum zeylanicum), the true or Ceylon cinnamon tree. It is one of the most prized spice oils and is used in food and beverage flavours, confectionery, oral care and fine perfumery.
Arizone International supplies Cinnamon Bark Oil for flavour houses, beverage and confectionery manufacturers, oral-care brands and perfumers.
About Ceylon Cinnamon
True cinnamon is native to Sri Lanka and the Western Ghats of southern India. Sri Lanka is still the main producer of Ceylon cinnamon and its oils. The trees are coppiced, and the thin inner bark of young shoots is peeled by skilled workers and rolled into delicate quills. The broken pieces and featherings are used for oil distillation. The oil yield from bark is low, often around 0.5% to 1%, so cinnamon bark oil is much more expensive than cinnamon leaf oil.
Bark Oil vs Leaf Oil
Although both come from the same tree, bark oil and leaf oil are very different:
- Cinnamon Bark OilRich in cinnamaldehyde (typically 50% to 75%), with a sweet, rich, true cinnamon flavour.
- Cinnamon Leaf OilRich in eugenol (typically 70% to 85%), with a clove-like, spicy scent. It is much cheaper.
Cinnamon bark oil is also different from cassia oil, which comes from Chinese cinnamon and has a harsher flavour.
Aroma and Composition
- CinnamaldehydeThe main flavour compound.
- EugenolPresent in smaller amounts, adding a clove-like depth.
- Linalool, Cinnamyl Acetate and Beta-CaryophylleneAdding sweetness and complexity.
Applications
- Premium cinnamon flavours for bakery, confectionery and desserts
- Beverages, liqueurs and cola flavours
- Chewing gum, toothpaste and mouthwash
- Fine perfumery, in oriental and gourmand accords
- Spice blends and food seasonings
Important Safety Note
Cinnamon bark oil is a strong skin irritant and sensitiser because of its cinnamaldehyde content. It should not be applied undiluted, and it is generally not recommended for skin care or massage. IFRA sets strict limits for its use in cosmetics. It should be used as a flavour only in food-grade amounts and kept out of reach of children. It should be avoided during pregnancy and by people taking blood-thinning medicines, except as a normal food flavour.
Quality Parameters
- Botanical identity (Cinnamomum verum bark)
- Cinnamaldehyde and eugenol content by gas chromatography
- Specific gravity, refractive index and optical rotation
- Aroma and flavour evaluation
- Screening for adulteration with cassia oil, leaf oil or synthetic cinnamaldehyde
- Food-grade compliance where required
Packaging and Storage
Supplied in aluminium bottles, HDPE containers or drums. Store tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Cinnamon bark oil is costly and often adulterated with cassia or synthetic cinnamaldehyde, so request a GC report and, for premium flavours, compare against a reference sample. Use it at very low levels in oral care because it can irritate the mouth.

Compliance
The bark gives much less oil than the leaves, and bark oil has the sweet, true cinnamon flavour that flavour houses want.
Cinnamaldehyde, usually 50% to 75%, gives Cinnamon Bark Oil its rich, sweet cinnamon taste.
Only at very low, regulated levels. Cinnamaldehyde is a strong skin sensitiser, so the oil is mainly used as a flavour.
We share a GC-MS report and COA for Cinnamon Bark Oil, which show its main components and help confirm purity.
Yes. Samples of Cinnamon Bark Oil are available on request, which helps your team evaluate it before a larger order.
We export Cinnamon Bark Oil from India to buyers in the USA, the UK, the EU, the Middle East, Australia and 40+ other countries. Orders ship by sea or air on EXW, FOB, CIF or DAP terms, with a certificate of analysis and a certificate of origin.
