Pumpkin Seed Oil is a rich, nutty oil pressed from the seeds of pumpkins, mainly Cucurbita pepo. Depending on how it is made, it ranges from a light golden oil to a thick, dark green oil that looks red when held up to the light. It is used in cosmetics, hair care, gourmet foods and men's health supplements.
Arizone International supplies Pumpkin Seed Oil in cold-pressed and refined grades for cosmetic brands, supplement manufacturers, food companies, wholesalers and private label businesses.
The Styrian Speciality
In the Styria region of southern Austria, farmers grow a special pumpkin whose seeds have no hard shell. The seeds are roasted and pressed to make Steirisches Kürbiskernöl, a dark green oil with a deep, toasted flavour that is protected under the European Union's geographical indication system. Locals drizzle it over salads, soups and even vanilla ice cream. The oil is "dichromatic": in a thin layer it looks green, while in a thick layer it looks red.
Cold-pressed oil from raw seeds is lighter in colour and flavour and is often preferred for cosmetic use.

Processing Options
We can supply cold-pressed oil from raw seeds, roasted-seed oil with a stronger flavour and colour, and refined oil for cosmetic formulations where a neutral colour and odour are needed. Refining removes much of the colour and some natural compounds, so the choice depends on your product.
Quality Parameters
- Fatty acid profile by gas chromatography
- Acid value and peroxide value
- Phytosterol content where specified
- Colour, odour and sensory evaluation
- Pesticide residues, PAH for roasted oils, and heavy metals
Storage
Keep in dark, airtight containers in a cool place. Pumpkin seed oil is not suitable for high-heat cooking, which damages its flavour and nutrients. Once opened, it keeps best in the refrigerator.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Styrian-style roasted pumpkin seed oil has a deep, nutty taste for culinary use, while cold-pressed unroasted oil is milder and better for cosmetics and softgels. Store it cool and dark to protect its colour.
