Jamun Extract is made from the seeds of the jamun fruit, Syzygium cumini, also called Java plum or Indian blackberry. Jamun seed has a long history in Ayurveda and Unani practice, and its extract is widely used in blood sugar support and digestive wellness products.
Arizone International supplies Jamun Extract for nutraceutical, herbal, cosmetic and food manufacturers, private label brands, wholesalers and bulk buyers. Standardisation, extract ratio, carrier, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.
The jamun tree grows throughout India and South Asia and produces small, dark purple fruits in early summer. After the fruit is eaten or processed, the hard seeds are collected, dried and extracted.
Jamun seeds contain tannins such as ellagic acid and gallic acid, along with the glycoside jamboline and other plant compounds. Extracts are usually standardised to tannins or supplied as ratio extracts.
To make the extract, the dried plant material is cleaned, milled and extracted with water, hydro-alcohol or another suitable solvent. The liquid extract is filtered, concentrated and usually spray-dried into a fine, free-flowing powder. It can then be standardised to a marker compound or supplied as a ratio extract, such as 10:1, and any carrier used, such as maltodextrin, is stated on the specification.
Formulation, dosage, safety assessment, labelling and permitted claims of the finished product must comply with the regulations of the intended market. Jamun may lower blood sugar, so people taking diabetes medicines should consult their doctor, and it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice.
State whether the extract is made from seed, fruit or bark, as the seed is the part most used for blood sugar support products.
Health claims for blood sugar are tightly controlled in many markets, so keep label wording within your local rules.
Jamun seed extract has an astringent, slightly bitter taste, so capsules and tablets are the most common formats. It is also used in Ayurvedic churnas and in powdered drink mixes with other herbs. Keep the extract sealed and dry, as it absorbs moisture in humid conditions.
