Cassia Fistula Extract is made from the fruit pulp of the Amaltas tree, also called the golden shower tree for its hanging clusters of bright yellow flowers. In Ayurveda the tree is known as Aragvadha, and its fruit pulp has been used for centuries as a gentle digestive herb.
Arizone International supplies Cassia Fistula Extract for nutraceutical, herbal, cosmetic and food manufacturers, private label brands, wholesalers and bulk buyers. Standardisation, extract ratio, carrier, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.
Cassia fistula is a medium-sized tree that grows across India and South-East Asia and is the national flower of Thailand. It produces long, dark brown, cylindrical pods filled with a sweet, sticky black pulp and flat seeds.
The pulp contains natural anthraquinones, similar to those found in senna, which give it a mild laxative effect. Extracts are usually made from the pulp and supplied as ratio extracts for Ayurvedic and digestive formulations.
To make the extract, the dried plant material is cleaned, milled and extracted with water, hydro-alcohol or another suitable solvent. The liquid extract is filtered, concentrated and usually spray-dried into a fine, free-flowing powder. It can then be standardised to a marker compound or supplied as a ratio extract, such as 10:1, and any carrier used, such as maltodextrin, is stated on the specification.
Formulation, dosage, safety assessment, labelling and permitted claims of the finished product must comply with the regulations of the intended market. Because of its laxative effect, it is meant for short-term use, is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding or for young children, and may affect how some medicines are absorbed.
Cassia fistula pulp extract is sticky and absorbs moisture, so ask for a free-flowing grade with a suitable carrier and store it sealed with a desiccant.
Labels should suggest short-term use, as with other laxative herbs.
In Ayurvedic formulas, Cassia fistula is often combined with other digestive herbs rather than sold on its own. For tablets, ask for a granulated grade, as the sticky pulp extract can be hard to compress. We can also supply the dried fruit pulp powder if you prefer a traditional format.
