Calendula Extract is made from the bright orange and yellow flowers of Calendula officinalis, often called pot marigold. Gardeners know it as an easy, cheerful plant. Skin-care formulators know it as one of the gentlest botanical ingredients they can put in a cream, balm or baby product.
Arizone International supplies Calendula Extract from India in powder, liquid and oil-based forms for cosmetic, personal-care, herbal and nutraceutical manufacturers.
Pot Marigold, Not the Common Marigold
Calendula is often confused with the African or French marigold (Tagetes) that is used in Indian festival garlands. The two plants are from different genera. Calendula officinalis has flat, daisy-like flower heads and a slightly sticky, resinous feel, and it is the species used in skin care and traditional European herbalism. Tagetes is mostly processed for lutein and colour.
The name comes from the Latin "calendae", the first day of the month, because the plant was said to bloom through almost every month of the year.
What the Flowers Contain
- TriterpenoidsSuch as faradiol esters, which are among the most studied compounds in calendula flowers.
- FlavonoidsIncluding quercetin and isorhamnetin glycosides.
- CarotenoidsThese give the flowers their colour and add a warm golden tint to oil extracts.
- PolysaccharidesWater-soluble compounds that contribute to the soothing feel of water-based calendula products.
Available Forms
Different products need different types of calendula extract, so we offer:
- Dry extract powder, as ratio grades such as 4:1 and 10:1
- Glycerin or propanediol-based liquid extract for water-based cosmetics
- Oil-infused calendula for balms, massage oils and lip care
- Custom extracts standardised to flavonoids on request
Common Applications
- Creams and lotions for dry or sensitive-looking skin
- Baby care products such as nappy creams and wash
- After-sun gels and soothing sprays
- Lip balms and ointments
- Shampoos and scalp-care products
- Herbal teas and dietary supplements
- Oral-care products such as mouth rinses
In European traditional medicine, calendula has long been used on minor skin irritations, and many herbal monographs still list it for this purpose. For finished products, the permitted claims depend on whether the item is sold as a cosmetic, a supplement or a registered herbal product.
Quality and Stability
We check calendula extracts for identity, moisture, microbial load and heavy metals. Powder extracts should be stored in sealed bags in a cool, dry place. Oil extracts should be kept away from heat and light to protect their colour and prevent rancidity. People with a known allergy to plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae) should be advised on the label.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
For eye health products, choose a lutein-standardised grade.
Why Buy From Arizone International?
We work with growers and processors who handle flowers carefully after harvest, because calendula petals lose quality quickly if they are dried poorly. Our team can help you choose the right format for your formula and supply bulk quantities, samples and private label packs with full batch documentation.

The test method is part of the specification and is stated on the certificate of analysis. Single marker compounds are usually tested by HPLC, identity by an HPTLC fingerprint, and broad groups such as polyphenols, tannins or saponins often by UV or titration.
