Beetroot Extract is a concentrated powder made from the roots of Beta vulgaris, the red beet. It concentrates the natural nitrates and betalain pigments of beetroot and is used in sports nutrition, heart and circulation supplements, functional drinks and as a natural colour.
Arizone International manufactures and exports Beetroot Extract in nitrate-standardised and colour grades for sports nutrition brands, supplement makers, beverage companies and private label businesses.
About Beetroot
Beetroot is a root vegetable grown worldwide, and in India it is cultivated as a winter crop in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and other states. Its deep red colour comes from betalain pigments, and it is one of the richest vegetable sources of dietary nitrate. Beetroot juice became popular with athletes after research on nitrates and exercise performance.
Extract vs Powder
Beetroot powder is simply dried and milled beet, containing all the fibre and sugars of the root. Beetroot Extract is made by extracting the juice or water-soluble compounds and concentrating them, then drying the concentrate. The extract has a higher nitrate or betalain content per gram, dissolves better in water and is better suited to capsules, tablets and drink mixes where a small dose is needed.
How Beetroot Extract Is Made
Fresh beets are washed, crushed and pressed or extracted with water. The juice is filtered, concentrated under vacuum at low temperature and spray dried, sometimes with a small amount of carrier such as maltodextrin, into a fine red to purple powder. Low-temperature processing protects the pigments, which break down with high heat.
